Brands Hatch finale!

All systems go for team rooster at Brands Hatch!

With Luke having a successful trip to Le Mans, luke was in a fighting spirit.

Friday saw 2 free practice, testing sessions, the sun was shining over Brands Hatch and the track conditions were perfect. Luke set a Personal Best Lap time of 59.626.

After the first session luke was said ‘it’s the best the truck has felt all year’.  But sadly as we set to the circuit for the second session luke completed 2 laps and was talking on the radio and complaining about a bad vibration. So for safety we pulled Luke and King Klaus into the pits.

Qualifying:

Saturday morning was qualifying, but conditions were far from the same as testing. With the temperature dropping and rain pouring, we changed to a wet setup. Luke posted a respectable time of 1.11.196 for a wet lap putting him 6th on the grid for the first race.

Race 1:

Luke starting P6 on the grid, starting on the outside 3rd row, track conditions were poor especially as in an earlier race another competitor had dropped fluid onto the track, and as the lights went out, luke couldn’t get the power down resulting in wheel spinning from the start and dropping down the order. But luke used this first race to get set behind the wheel and get some good lap times in. The final result was Luke bringing King Klaus home in 11th position.

Luke had no concerns at the end of the race and he said the truck felt great and no longer had the vibration issue from qualifying earlier on in the day.

Race 2:

Luke starting 2nd on the grid alongside Terry Gibbon.

Lights out and Luke had a fantastic start, a very close battle for 1st position from the start, no body contact and very close but near racing from Luke and Terry. On the 4th lap Luke had some great pace and the pressure got to Terry and he span in front of Luke, opening the door to Luke to take 1st position. Over half the race to go and Luke pulls a lead from the rest of the pack. Mat Summerfield and Ryan Smith were gaining on Luke but he didn’t let the pressure get to him. He was able to get his head down and focus as he has clear track ahead. On the final lap Mat and Ryan were closing on Luke but they got tangled behind Luke and allowing him to cross the line and take the chequered flag and 1st place!

Race 3:

Like starting 10th on the grid. With confidence and focus at a high, luke was looking forward to the race. A few competitors following the saying ‘if you’re not rubbing you’re not racing’ the race was very physical, but Luke managed to avoid getting involved in any scraps and drove a very clean race and came home in 5th position.

Race 4:

The finale of the weekend with division 1 and division 2 trucks merged together for the final race of the season. Luke started 2nd on the grid and made a great start, but unfortunately dropped a couple of positions within the first lap. But Luke’s driven positive attitude allowed him to battle hard. And soon fought himself through into 1st place! Luke was pulling a strong lead as his other competitors were battling for positions behind him.

Out of nowhere Luke came on the radio disappointed, he had heard a loud ‘BANG’ and lost power, King Klaus has no lost power and was unable to pick up speed. The decision was to pull out of the final race for safety.

Overall we are a very proud team. Luke did a great job this weekend and we would like to thank everyone.

Thankyou for the 2017 season. With thanks to all Circuit staff, marshals, the supporters, the team and finally all of our sponsors and partners.
